Sacramento is planning a spectacular 2018 Statewide Festival to be held Northern California on May 18-20, 2018. Bruce Mitchell, the 2018 Statewide Festival coordinator, has already been hard at work planning and lining up fantastic teachers for the 2018 Statewide--Steve Kotansky and Bruce Hamilton!!!--as well as booking a fabulous, fabulous venue--Masonic Temple in downtown Sacramento. He also managed to book Chubritza as the live band on both Friday and Saturday nights, and he has other surprises in store!!! More information is forthcoming, so stay updated by checking back on this SIFDAC Web site and the Folk Dance Federation of California (North) Web site at www.folkdance.com.
Each year SIFDAC hosts the Camellia International Folk Dance Festival and a Scholarship Ball. The Camellia Festival is held in Sacramento during March. For several years, the Camellia Festival included a concert that showcased many local folk dance performing groups as well as workshops and parties that has included international guest teachers. Beginning in 2016, the Camellia Festival will encompass workshops and parties that will include guest teachers and a short performance by a local performing group but will not include a concert.
The Scholarship Ball is another large festival hosted by the SIFDAC. It raises funds for SIFDAC members to attend folk dance camps during the summer. The Scholarship Ball is usually held during January. Folk dancers pledge money for their favorite dances to be included in the Scholarship Ball program.
The annual SIFDAC Membership Barbeque and Dance is held at the end of August prior to September 1. We love getting together and dancing outside at the Wolterbeek's Ranch! Thank you so much Al and Teddy for letting us gather together each year at your ranch and having the best time ever!! This event is special because it is the best time for local folk dancers and clubs to sign up and become members of SIFDAC since the term of membership goes from September 1 to August 31 of each year.
